June 13, 2014 The Plane has Landed

The best news first.

Trisha, Jeff, Tanner, Natalie, Brady, and Landon [and the plane] landed on time at 10 p.m.  They left NW Arkansas at 10:00 a.m., flew to Minneapolis, then Seattle, and then Anchorage.  It made for a long day!

We parked in line with the shuttle buses, and limousines,  as we drove their rental motor home to pick them up.
Of course with four teenagers there was someone hungry. We stopped at Wendy's to refill the starving boys.

They are settling for the night.  Of course their bodies are on Arkansas time (2 a.m.), but it is still very light out.

We are having an issue with our rental unit.  The propane detector keeps alarming.  Last night we thought it was the smoke detector.  No, it is the propane detector.  We have called the emergency number twice and gotten no response.  We have a vent and window open, just in case.  We really think the detector is faulty. Glen has disabled it so we can sleep without random loud piercing  beeping sounds.

Their motor home is 32'.  There is a queen bed, two bunks, the couch folds into a bed, and dinette makes a bed, and there is a bunk over the cab.

After breakfast, we will be heading north toward Mt. Denali, with a stop in Talkeetna.  Adventures are planned.  Stay tuned.

The other good news.

Darin, our son, called this afternoon.  He and Zade were headed to the St. Louis Cardinals' baseball game.  Not that they need an extra reason to go see the Cardinals, but today....

Matt Peters, a fellow policeman with Darin, has been in Honduras for several months with the National Guard.  Today at the Seventh Inning Stretch, his 8-year old daughter with a group was singing "God Bless America."  She wanted her daddy to be able to see her sing, but he was gone.  Unknown to her, Matt arranged a three-day leave, contacted the StL Cardinals, and you know the rest of the story.

He surprised her on field after the song.  I have goosebumps and tears just telling you about it.  America at it's finest.

There is a second chapter to the ballgame saga.  My brother called me to see, if by chance, we were watching the game.  I told him NO.  He said he just saw Zade and Darin on TV.  Darin had already sent me photos of Zade and Fredbird 'high-fiving" and laughing with each other.  Well, the camera man came over and put Zade, Darin and Fredbird on tv.  How 'bout that.

Zade will be grinning from ear to ear.  He dearly loves the Cardinals.
