7/8/2014 Travel Day: Valdez to Glennallen (Northern Lights RV Park, Glennallen, Alaska)

It was an up and down travel day.  Leaving Valdez we climbed to the summit of Thompson Pass at 2710', and then went down, and down, to approximately 1100' at Glennallen.

By the way Glennallen must be the Mosquito Capital of Alaska.

Glen is not be funny.  He put on all these layers to unhook the truck from the motor home.

Access to the Aleyska Pipeline is this gravel road off the Richardson Highway.

The pipeline is 800 miles long, 48 inches in diameter.  Obviously from looking at the pipeline it moves side to side.  Glen says the outside temperature causes the pipeline to expand or contract, thus it moves as necessary.

We are finding it necessary to call RV parks ahead of us arriving.  Four years ago we were able to stop at an RV park without reservations.  The only reservation we had the entire summer was over the weekend of July Fourth.

We have now reservations for July 13-17 at Talkeetna and July 18-21, at Healy, 11 miles north Denali National Park.
