The boats are lined up on the Columbia River in front of the RV park, hoping to catch a Chinook salmon or two.
A little perspective: there's the three fishing boats; then a huge barge that is being pulled by a tug that is out of the picture.
The RVer next to Gary/Evelyn is fishing from the banks. This is his fishing rod. There is 60-lb test line on the rod. Jeff watched him catch a salmon early this morning
Another RVer/fisherman caught this while we were watching. This Chinook salmon weighed about 7-8 pounds.
1905 covered bridge just west of the RV park. Roof was added in 1906. |
Inside of covered bridge. The infrastructure reminds me very much of the covered bridge north of Jackson MO next to the Bollinger Mill. |
Now...on to Cape Disappointment State Park, south of Long Beach WA
Pacific Ocean as seen from Cape Disappointment SP overlook.
North Head Lighthouse at Cape Disappointment State Park.
The jetty in the back of the picture was built 1885-1915. It caused the soil/sediment to settle and fill in 600 acres on this side of the jetty. The current campground is now on that acreage.

Here comes the jaw-dropping part of the day! There was an international kite festival going on in Long Beach Washington. The festival is all week end. Can't imagine how many people and/or kites will be flying tomorrow! BTW: Long Beach bills itself as the "longest beach in the world!"
A few facts from today....
The high today was 102 degrees! Sunday it is forecast to be 70 degrees as a high.
Doug and Mildred joined us tonight at the RV park. Their truck was finally repaired last night. They drove today to catch up with us! The truck is now running at peak performance.
Gary grilled steaks for all of us tonight for dinner. Side dishes included baked potatoes, fresh corn, salad, sliced tomatoes, and carrot cake cupcakes and fried peach pies for dessert. YUM!
Because we knew Doug and Mildred were joining us today, we postponed going to Mt. St. Helens today. That trip is tomorrow!!
Hope you are enjoying our trip! We are having a great time--and seeing so much.
