August 28-September 11, 2017 YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, WYOMING (Bridge Bay Campground, YNP, Wyoming)

Generally speaking there is no Internet available inside Yellowstone National Park (now known as YNP).

We had reservations at Bridge Bay Campground thanks to brother in law Jeff who has worked at the campground since May 5.  He arranged for us to "share" electrical hook-ups with other workers at the campground for which we are mighty thankful.

Bridge Bay Campground has no hook ups for the general public, has eight loops, for a total of nearly 400 sites.  There are bathrooms but no showers.   Some of the loops are for "tents only".  BTW:  the campground was "full" each night, including last night (September 10), which was the last night of the season.  Bridge Bay is the first campground to close for the upcoming winter season.

YNP is generally set up in five areas:  Mammoth Hot Springs, Old Faithful, Canyon Village, West Thumb and Grant Village, and Fishing Bridge, Lake Village and Bridge Bay.

Distances between each area are 35 to 50 miles or longer.  Each area deserves at least one day's visit.  People do come in for one day/night and drive like heck to see it all!

I am deciding how to "show" you what we saw...day by day or area visited?

A few more thoughts/facts about YNP!

There are four types of thermal features:

  • Geyser--a hot spring with the intriguing habit of tossing underground water in the area.  It the equivalent of a giant pressure cooker.
  • Hot spring--similar to geysers, but they have no constrictions in their plumbing.  The many beautiful colors you see in hot springs are caused by light refraction, suspended mineral particles, and heat-loving microorganism.
  • Fumarole, also called a steam vent--a vent in the Earth's crust
  • Mud pot--occur in places where microorganism help convert hydrogen sulfide, which rises from deep within the earth.
There are 2.2 million-plus acres in YNP.

I guess I will start by going  the next page/blog.  Click on!
