August 12, 2016 Whale Watching, Port Angeles, Washington

"Load 'em up, head 'em out!"

The family group left in two trucks this morning. Gary served as our chauffeur.

The first stop was at "Fat Cat Gardens", a pick-your-own flowers/lavender garden.

The pictures say it all.  Remember: click on each picture to enlarge!

Rock art; think each stack is called a "cairn"

An Atlantic Salmon farm, seen from tour boat.  The salmon grow for 15 months, then are sold locally.

Coast Guard on duty in port.

The small, black and white whales with a dorsal fin straight up into the aire are called ORCHA WHALES.

Right at the side of the boat.

Then, we saw HUMPBACK WHALES, much bigger, much harder to see.  They surface, blow air, roll, slap their tail and then dive for 10-15 minutes.

This is a humpback slapping its tail.
This faraway mountain is 80 miles to the south and east, called Mt. Baker, over 10,000'feet elevation.
A barge loaded with huge logs, pulled by a tugboat, headed west to the open Pacific Ocean.
The boat captain told us he had never seen so many orca whales at one time.  The weather was fabulous, and the seas were calm.  A great day.

More adventure, not the same, tomorrow!

I found one more pic.  Race Rocks Lighthouse, on Canada shore, across from Port Angeles, WA
