September 19, 2018 Correction/Mis-Information

I mentioned yesterday that Jeff and Marcella would be leaving Sunday to go to work at Amazon in Hendersonville.  WRONG.  It is in Campbellsville KY.  I apologize for the error!

News on the homefront.
Our in-progress house is now roofed; the house is wrapped; the walls are in place.  Progress.  Next in line, I think, will be wiring/plumbing/electricial work, as well as windows and siding.  Our construction manager said yesterday the siding crew is busy with other big projects, and he is looking for another crew.

Regarding the motorhome repair projects......the motorhome is going to a nearby business that builds and repairs recreational vehicles for the leaking hot water heater tomorrow.

October 2 the motorhome will go to an authorized Norcold (refrigerator) dealer in Jackson, MO for the ice maker project.

September 18, 2018 Tuesday Little things that turn into big things (Still at The Landing Point RV Park, Cape Girardeau MO)

June 2018, yes, that long ago, the ice maker in the refrigerator quit working.  The motorhome was taken to "Cape RV Sales and Service" for repairs.  After countless trips and phone calls to Cape RV, as well as a water valve being replaced, and the entire ice maker being replaced, we still do not have a working ice maker.

They are now in the process of "researching" the issue.  I have no hope that they are capable of repairing the ice maker.  Seems to me that "researching" should have been done a long time ago.

Two weeks ago Glen noticed water dripping from the hot water heater.  Obviously we do not want to start the repair process with Cape RV Sales and Service.  Yesterday he stopped at "McDowells RV Sales and Service" in Jackson, MO.  They are busy and the first week of October is the first available appointment.  Glen is now thinking about the situation.

On a happier note, the "new" house is now framed, roof decked, and house wrapped.  Progress.  Saturday evening we took a picnic meal to the house and and ate on the back porch.  FUN.

This past Sunday we watched Zade/team play two games of baseball.  It is almost painful to watch.  It definitely is a "character building" season.  Several of the players lack the basic throwing and catching skills.

Our neighbors, Jeff and Marcella (Glen's sister), will be moving this Sunday.  They will be going to Hendersonville TN for three months to work at an Amazon Distribution Center.

The weather is still very summer-like with temps and feel-like temps in the 90's.

Sunday, the 16th, we celebrated our 51st wedding anniversary.  How does time go by so quickly?  Really? married 51 years?  We can't be old enough to be married that long.  On the other hand, as the card that Glen gave says "remember the thrill of when we first started out?  Me, too.  That was only the beginning!"  Those 51 years have brought adventures, and loss, two children and grandchildren and love that deepens each day.  Today's love is much more than 51 years ago.  It is seasoned with commitment and choice and determination and celebration.

September 14, 2018 (Friday) A Work in Progress

This afternoon Jeff and Marcella, Glen and I journeyed to Perryville, MO; a trip of 30 miles north on I-55.

We learned on the local television station about a Vietnam Memorial in Perryville.

Upon arrival we found the project to be in the early stages of construction.  A full-sized replica of the Vietnam Wall Memorial in Washington, D.C., was finished and in place. There is a "Welcome Center", and a building that will be a museum at some point in time.

Any visit to a Vietnam memorial is an emotional journey for Glen.  It is touching to walk to a wall panel, and find the names of bunkmates and friends.

Glen at Wall Panel 23 West, Line 140, finding the name of Joe Mott and Phillip Burfoot.  Burfoot was Glen's squad leader and Mott was Glen's bunkmate.

"Missouri's National Veterans Memorial Fund is a non-profit organization based in Perryville, Missouri, that is dedicated to honoring our nation's veterans.  The organization broke ground on the veteran's memorial outside of Perryville in March of 2017."
We look forward to returning to the Veteran's Memorial in a year's time when hopefully much more work will have been completed.

Jim Eddleman donated 46 acres of land and provided much financing for this project.  J. Eddleman bravely fought in the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War.  The official dedication will be in May 2019.  I would assume landscaping, lighting, and other finishing touches will be finished by then.

If you have interest in visiting this location or learning more about the memorial, go to www.mnvmfund.org

Lunch alert: if you are stopping in Perryville for any reason, or looking for a place for a meal while you travel north/south on I-55, Exit 129,  visit "Mary Jane's".  The burgers and sides are yummy delicious.  The restaurant is located in a renovated brick building in downtown.

September 9, 2018 A New Week

The older one gets the more medical attention is needed!  Profound sentiment.

Glen discussed back issues with the back doctor.  Consequently he has tests next week.  I conferred with the gastroenterologist, including a routine colonoscopy.  Consequently I have a prescription
for stomach issues (that I didn't even know I had).  Glen and I both saw the ophthalmologist.  Hurray!  Our eyes are doing great!  "See you in a year!"

Preparing for a colonoscopy is not a pleasant experience as I am sure you know.  Surely some doctor/researcher can invent a new formula for completion of that procedure.  ðŸ˜

Hope that wasn't too much information!

Glen attended the annual picnic hosted by "M & A Electric Power Cooperative" Saturday at Lake Wapappello.  Glen renewed friendships with other retirees and met new-to-him employees.  As of December 2018 Glen will have been retired eleven years.

There was a good rain Friday night, 3.25" accumulation.  It was enough to cancel the SEMO Fair parade scheduled for Saturday morning.

We have watched the driveway be completed at our "new" house as well as the "storm room" in the master bedroom.  All of the concrete work is now finished.  We assume framing the walls/roof will be the next step.  The storm room has concrete walls and roof; an easy and convenient place to wait out a storm.

August 29-September 3, 2018 Routine (or) Life as Usual

We are going to be here in Cape Girardeau the next few months, watching our house go "up".

The slab foundation was poured last week.  Framing will be the next part of construction.

Life goes on in a routine, much like those not living in a motor home.  Especially, when it is as hot as it is now.  Heat indices have been over 100 degrees the past several days.  We, as you know, just hibernate!

We stay in, read, play games, and stay cool!

Darin and family have been gone over the holiday week end.  Glen retrieved "Max" from doggy day care last night, taking him to his/their house.  Max was happy to be there.  Glen is taking Max outdoors several times today.  Darin/Sarah/kids will be home this afternoon.

Our favorite furniture store is having a "Labor Day" sale.  We have looked and sat in several sofas and chairs.  They are more than happy to "hold" anything we buy until December --or whenever delivery would be made.

Blogs will slow down to once a week unless something exciting or unusual occurs.
